The 5 Best Food and Drink Happy Hours in Midtown Houston

This is a continuation of my best happy hours by neighborhood series. Check out the first one about downtown spots here. Because I love as many places as I can go to to get great specials, a nice buzz, and a reasonable 30 something-year-old bedtime.

Note: All happy hours are Monday-Friday unless otherwise noted.

Weights and Measures

Maybe I am biased because this is walking distance to me, but Weights and Measures is a real winner regardless. Just an FYI, they call their bar area Love & Squalor, so if you see that on any online platforms, they are one and the same.

Oporto Fooding House & Wine

Oporto reminds me of the time I went to Spain. Now, I know Oporto is Portuguese, but hey, close enough. I can’t just pick up and go to Spain. But I can drive the one mile to Oporto. Yes, please. Sometimes during happy hour they even have free wine tastings- wines from Portugal, of course.

Izakaya

Here you can come right after work in your button up or come as you are in shorts and tennis shoes. The vibe is “classy funk” with sleek furniture and bold, colorful murals. Shelves are adorned with Japanese toys- Pac Man, Nintendo characters. It’s a spot to really feel carefree and NOT talk about work.

Pub Fiction

The fact that they have a later ending happy hour is enough to put it on my favorites list. Sometimes we have to work late, so even more so do we deserve a cheap drink after! The crowd is a mix of young and young at heart. And during the one month of good weather Houston has, they have an extensive patio to revel in.

The Brass Tap

The Brass Tap is outside of the younger 20s area of Midtown, so it’s right up my alley. It’s for those who still want to have a good time but outside of the bro scene. As the name suggests, they have plenty of beers on tap, but they have a full bar, too. They have plenty of TVs for watching sports if that’s your thing. I personally don’t care who gets more touchdowns, but I still enjoy my time there relishing in lettuce wraps and unique crafts. And when in season, they have crawfish too!
